Forging New Paths

Who We Are

We are a group of young Africans navigating the unclear pathways into policy ourselves — figuring it out as we go, and building the structure we wish existed when we started.

Policy Foundry Africa is a policy club creating structured pathways for young Africans into policy careers. We're building a community where you can learn foundational skills, practice policy work, connect with professionals, and build a portfolio that opens doors.

Why We Exist

Breaking into policy feels impossible.

The pathways are unclear. The entry points are hidden. There's nowhere to practice, no structured way to build skills, and no clear progression from interest to capability.

We believe policy careers should be accessible to anyone with the talent and drive to do the work. Not easier — accessible. Learnable. Structured.

That's why we exist.

Who We Exist For

We exist first for ourselves — a group of young Africans navigating the policy space, creating the structure we wish existed when we started.

And we exist for you:

University students trying to understand what policy careers look like
Recent graduates who want to break in but don't know where to start
Early-career professionals ready to deepen your expertise and build portfolios that open doors

If you're interested in policy but the path forward isn't clear, this is for you.

How We Work

We operate through two interconnected spaces:

The Assembly

Free • Open to all

This is where you start. The Assembly is a learning community where you:

  • Attend monthly skill-building sessions on policy analysis, research, and writing
  • Practice writing in The Briefing Room and get peer feedback
  • Connect with policy professionals through fireside chats and Q&As
  • Access our weekly Opportunities Digest
  • Build foundational skills in a supportive community

The Foundry

Application-based • For committed members

After 3 months active in The Assembly + 2 published outputs, you become eligible to apply. The Foundry is our selective core where you:

  • Join a Policy Track (Governance, Economic Policy, Climate, Social Policy, or Africa in the World)
  • Participate in Working Cycles — 3-4 month projects producing real research
  • Access mentorship from policy practitioners
  • Build a portfolio of published work that opens doors

THE PROGRESSION

Assembly (learn & practice) → Eligibility (3 months + 2 outputs) → Foundry (produce real work with mentorship)
